Every child deserves a future beyond circumstance.

Kidfinity and Beyond Foundation, Inc. keeps the children of incarcerated mothers in school, and helps the mothers prepare to come home.

Our mission

We keep children in school while their mothers are in jail.

Every child in the KIDS Program receives a school bag and school supplies at the start of the school year, and educational assistance every grading period. Assistance continues while a scholar keeps a grade of 85% or higher in every subject. A scholar who falls short is not dropped. They are placed under academic review and offered tutoring. We work with the mothers too, on livelihood, legal help and preparing for release.

About the Foundation

Kidfinity and Beyond exists so that no child’s future is defined by the incarceration of a parent.

The situation

Philippine jails hold nearly three times the people they were built for.1 Seven in ten of those inside have not finished trial, and in law they are presumed innocent.3 A case takes 529 days to resolve, on average.4

What 529 days means to a child in school If a mother is detained on the first day of the school year, her case is decided about five and a half months into the next one.

No Philippine agency counts the children these mothers leave behind.8 The justice system that separated them does not record them, which is the first reason they go unserved.

The KIDS Program

How the scholarship works

Each child receives a Balik-Eskwela kit at the start of the school year, and educational assistance every grading period. Each period, the scholar submits their report card. A Foundation reviewer checks the grades against the 85% standard.

  • 85% or higher in every subjectGood standing. Assistance continues for the next period.
  • Below 85% in any subjectAcademic review, as long as the average is 80% or higher. Assistance continues, with tutoring and a follow-up next period.
  • Average below 80%A case conference with the social worker, the guardian and, where possible, the mother. Assistance is reviewed, not automatically withdrawn.

Marks on the 1.00 to 5.00 college scale and letter grades are converted to percentages first, so every scholar is held to the same standard. A subject marked INC is left out of the average and checked by a reviewer, not scored as zero.

Our Founder

Athalia Marie Villaraza Suarez

We see you, we understand you, and we love you.

From her video message to the mothers and children at the Foundation’s orientation, Makati City Jail, 19 July 2026

Athalia founded Kidfinity and Beyond on the belief that no child’s future should be defined by a parent’s incarceration. She leads the Foundation’s work in person, at the jail and in meetings with partners.

“Kidfinity and Beyond is not just a project for me,” she told the families. “It is my labor of love.” Every child, she said, should feel safe, understood and loved, because children with love and support are better able to dream.
